Fender Strat body - Tele neck [8.0 lbs] :: document

A client wanted his favorite guitar documented so I pulled it apart, took photos and wrote down some notes for him.  It's a 2000 Mexi Strat body with a Tele neck that he put together.

The pickguard is loaded with Fender ’57/‘62 pickups measuring 6.42K (neck),  6.45K (middle non-RWRP), 6.45K (bridge).  The middle pickup is non-reverse wound / non-reverse polarity so it is not hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4.

• Master volume, neck & middle p/u tone, bridge p/u tone, 5-way switch
• 250K audio taper CTS volume pot “GTR ELEC 250KA CTS 0519”

The bridge is a Callaham Mexican Std vibrato bridge and arm.

A reissue Tele deluxe with aftermarket Chandler pickguard loaded with Seymour Duncan APH-2 alnico pro II humbuckers in for a setup.

Fender American Vintage '52 Telecaster [8.7 lbs] :: electrical check up

A reissue '52 Tele in for some noise issues.  A few ground solder joints needed to be touched up along with cleaning out the pots with some contact cleaner.  Back in business.

Flat frets & poor intonation :: 1988-96 Fender Custom Telecaster HH [7.0 lbs]

A rare neck through dual humbucker Telecaster in for a fret level, though not for fret buzzes.  These wide, flat jumbo frets were causing intonation issues for the player.  Leveling out the flat frets and recrowning them helped improve intonation up and down the neck.

A custom neck through Tele with dual humbuckers in for a fret dress.  Most fret levels that come through the shop are done to correct buzzing issues.  This player has a good ear and the flat spots in the jumbo frets were causing intonation issues for him.  With a wider fret, the fretted note's contact point gets pushed more towards the bridge as the fret looses it's crown when compared to narrow fret wire.  Leveling out the divots and recrowning restores the string's contact point to the center of the fret slot to provide improved intonation.
