Loose ribs :: Lyon & Healy bowl back mandolin
The a few of the Brazilian rosewood ribs on this bowl back mandolin were loose and needed to be re-glued. I quickly brushed hide glue into the seams and wrapped the body with large rubber bands to clamp them closed. Next up is fixing a couple missing soundhole pieces before gluing up the neck.
Loose tuner bushings :: 2012 Martin OM-42
Here's a loose high e tuner bushing on this Martin OM. There's a fine line when fitting bushings between just right and too loose. Too tight and you can risk damaging the headstock. Too loose can mess with tuning stability. The easy fix is to pull the tuner and bushing and apply superglue to the tuner hole. Once cured, you can test the fit and reapply if necessary. (Do NOT glue the bushings in!)
Heat pressing a straight neck :: 2008 Kinal Kompact acoustic bass
The combination of a 30" short scale and low-tension light gauge strings was not enough to pull this neck into a forward bow (relief). The neck was dead straight with the truss rod backed off and needed some relief in order to get away with lower action. Here I'm using my temperature controller along with a fingerboard-sized heat blanket to warm the glue joint between the neck and fingerboard. Strategically placed feeler gauges arranged along a rigid clamping block gently flex the neck into a forward bow while the glue softens. This forward bow now allows the truss rod a usable range.
Intermittent Volume :: 2010 Pederson NS II [6.3 lbs]
A dirty master volume pot was causing intermittent output for the player of this hollowbody. The volume is a push-pull coil tap that was removed, sprayed with DeoxIT and reinstalled. Also a failing plastic output jack plate (cracked) was replaced with a metal plate.
The bridge is a LR Baggs T-Bridge with piezo saddles for a more acoustic tone and can be blended in with the magnetic pickups or on it's own.
Setup :: 2014 Yamaha FG700S [4.4 lbs]
A return customer recently picked up this inexpensive dread as a camping, beach, etc guitar. Unfortunately I found a top crack and recommended that he return / exchange the guitar since he purchased it only a few weeks ago. Bummer, this one didn't sound too bad and played really well. The crack was not a big deal to repair, but not on a new guitar.
