2008 Epiphone Dot Studio WB :: headstock repair (front)

2008 Epiphone Dot Studio WB :: headstock repair (front).

The headstock was broken cleanly off so it had to be realigned and glued.  There was a significant void that needed to be filled in the face before blacking it out, scraping back the logo and then continuing with the clear coats.  The original finish was matte but I opted to do a glossy repair on the face of the headstock.

2008 Epiphone Dot Studio WB :: headstock repair (rear)

2008 Epiphone Dot Studio WB :: headstock repair (rear).

The rear of the neck was finished at the factory with the color in the topcoat.  Usually color is the base coat with top clear coats.  I selectively sanded through the color layer for aesthetics while blending in the finish fills so the neck feels smooth.  There is still the original finish in this area although it may appear to look like bare wood.

1987 Carvin DC-150 :: belly carve

1987 Carvin DC-150 :: belly carve.

This is being stripped and refinished with light transparent nitro burst.  The player decided that since it was stripped, we should add a comfort carve to the back where it contacts your ribs.  Here it is roughed out with my new Lie-Nielsen spokeshaves.

2009 Resurrection Eagle [9.8 lbs] :: flip pickups

2009 Resurrection Eagle [9.8 lbs] :: flip pickups.

The guitar was previously wired so that the coil taps activated the bridge-side of each humbucker.  The player wanted a warmer single coil sound (coil tap on neck side), so the pickups were each rotated 180° (bass to treble).  I could have rewired each pickup but I did not want to splice in extra lead lengths.
