Switch goes back home :: 1970s Gibson EB-3

I've been busy with the daily videos so I'm a little behind on posting photos of projects coming through the shop.  This was finished up a few weeks ago.

Final task on the 70s EB-3 is to plug the rotary switch hole in the pick guard since I moved it back where it should be. I've grown a shine to this fella. It's a short scale so a little easier on my guitar player hands and there are so many good tonal variations to be had out of these 3 pickups. This would make a monster studio bass.

Neck build :: Chubbuck Mousa 003

I didn't get around to posting photos from last week's Mousa 003 neck build (all featured on the vlog).  Here I trued and roughed out the neck blank before routing the truss rod slot.  Next step is to fit and glue the peghead ears.  Note that the peghead overlay and fingerboard have been bound.

High nut :: Gibson Custom Shop ES-330 stoptail prototype [5.9 lbs]

A very unique Gibson Custom Shop ES-330 stoptail prototype. 330's are full hollow with P90's, so one with a stoptail mounted directly to the top with no center block to reinforce it is quite amazing (vs a stock trapeze tailpiece). Here I'm chasing down the nut as it may have set up for slide for the previous owner (or the preference was to just leave it high).

Note I was told that this guitar was originally built for Nashville studio legend Brett Mason.

The first day back from the long weekend rolls on. Jumping head first into the butchered 1970s Gibson EB-3 mess. Doing my best to get this back as close to stock as you can while dealing with an added 3rd P pickup. I also decided to relocate the previously moved rotary switch back home and add back original controls, so some drilling out of plugs was required. A Curtis Novak choke is going in (original missing), along with Emerson Custom CTS pots. What a mess!

No signal :: Partscaster Fender Tele [7.4 lbs]

A relic'd partscaster Tele with a history of random signal loss in for a while-you-wait repair.  This has been through a couple other shops in the area and ended up on my bench for an emergency fix last week.  I did the usual checking of all connections by eye, with a meter, reflowing suspect joints and physically stressing connections while the guitar was connected to an amp.  I even checked the resistance of both pickups to make sure there wasn't a broken coil.  Something I did ended up fixing the no-output issue, but I don't know exactly what was the cause.  Not exactly the most reassuring of repairs, but I made sure to shake, prod and bang on the guitar as much as I could before it left with the player.  Good thing it is a relic!

Note that the fix got the player through the gig so now only time will tell if whatever fix I did will last.
