Switch goes back home :: 1970s Gibson EB-3

I've been busy with the daily videos so I'm a little behind on posting photos of projects coming through the shop.  This was finished up a few weeks ago.

Final task on the 70s EB-3 is to plug the rotary switch hole in the pick guard since I moved it back where it should be. I've grown a shine to this fella. It's a short scale so a little easier on my guitar player hands and there are so many good tonal variations to be had out of these 3 pickups. This would make a monster studio bass.

Note I will most likely put together a blog post on this project sometime soon, but in the meantime check out #eb3mystery.

The wraparound bridge was pulling up the studs in the body due to a poor fit.  The solution was to plug the bridge stud holes and re-drill them for a nice tight fit.  The player also brought in a set of Lollar Imperial high winds to have installed.

100 Year Old Restoration :: Lyon & Healy Bowl Back Mandolin [1.3 lbs]

Whew! Finally finished up this ~100 year old mandolin restoration a couple weeks ago. Let's see ... neck & fingerboard reglue, missing soundhole pieces, cracked / loose top bracing, loose back ribs, new inlayed pickguard (courtesy of Dave Nichols Custom Pearl Inlay), new bridge and properly spaced new tuners (peghead had to be bunged & redrilled). A lot of hours into this little fella. Excited to drop it off to it's new owner. I went to high school with him in PA and this was his grandmother's mandolin. Always an honor to work on family heirlooms.

Until I gather everything into a single blog post, you can check out the previous progress of this project here.

Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 [9.2 lbs] :: setup & tuner tweak

This neck-though 5 string bass came in for a setup with Rotosound Stainless roundwound strings.  Upon inspecting the bass I found the D tuner had some play to it.  I removed the tuner to find that the mounting screw was bent and ready to break (pain to remove when they break) and the screw hole stripped out.  I plugged and re-drilled the hole and replaced the screw.

Note that the tuners on the end of the headstocks tend to receive the most abuse due to their exposure.  Gig bags can sometimes be rough on these tuners as well.
